Microsoft is investigating the leak of an early version of the upcoming Xbox 360 video game "Gears of War 3," IGN reported Sunday.
"Gears of War 3" is not scheduled to be released until September, but an early build of the game's single-player campaign has leaked to the internet, causing a flood of spoiler-filled videos to surface on YouTube.
It was not immediately known how this early build was obtained, but Microsoft said it is working with various security teams to investigate the leak.
"We have seen the reports of 'Gears of War 3' content being propped on the web and are working closely with our security teams and law enforcement to address the situation," Microsoft said in a statement to IGN. "This content is not from a final build and is not representative of what fans will enjoy when the game launches."
Microsoft's major release last September, "Halo: Reach," was also leaked to the web a few months early.
The first two installments in the "Gears of War" franchise, an Xbox 360 exclusive, have sold a combined total of more than 12 million units, game developer Epic Games said on its website.
