Drew Peterson Tries to Prevent Movie About Himself

Posted:

Jailed former suburban Chicago police officer Drew Peterson is demanding that a television company halt production of a movie about his legal troubles starring Rob Lowe .

Walter Maksym, a lawyer for the former Bolingbrook officer who has pleaded not guilty to murdering his third wife and who is suspected in the disappearance of his fourth, said Thursday that he sent out 18 letters on Wednesday, including to Lowe and Lifetime Entertainment Services.

"There are issues as to whether he can get a fair trial already," Maskym said. “By an unbiased group of jurors, this is a group of people, making up, based on the basis of a book we say is not accurate, a story about him and then publicizing it and trying to rush it out either in conjunction with the trial or just before the trial and using his name to use information against him to make him look bad in the public eye."

Maksym says he is demanding Lifetime stop production because they have no legal right to use Peterson's name, likeness or story without Peterson's approval. He says he will file a lawsuit by the end of the month if he doesn't hear back from Lifetime about the letter.

"No matter how much of a public figure you are, no matter how well know you are, no one case use your name to sell any kind of product or an item or a movie without your written permission,” Maskym said.

Lifetime spokesman Les Eisner declined to comment about the letter.
