In just a few months, former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich will be heading to a new home: a federal prison. But before he begins serving his corruption sentence, Blagojevich is trying to find a new Chicago home for his family.
Among the homes they've toured in the Northwest Side Sauganash neighborhood is a three bedroom brick bungalow listing for for $449,000. They've also toured a four-bedroom house selling for $439,000 just around the corner.
Both houses are considerably smaller and cheaper than the family's longtime home in the Ravenswood Manor neighborhood, which they've now put up for sale. That house has two mortgages totaling nearly $700,000.
Sauganash is already home to many politicians and judges, and neighbors of the house the Blagojeviches visited twice say they would welcome the politically infamous family to their block. But still, their appearance was a bit of a shock.
"Those are the last two people I would expect to see driving down the alley here talking to us," said Jill Philbin, who ran into the family while she was out walking her dog. She talked with Patti Blagojevich for half an hour . "She had asked me if the houses had yards in them, and the type of neighborhood and the schools in Sauganash."
