Friday night, the Chicago Public Schools Board holds more public hearings on a proposed property tax hike that will equal about $84 more a year for the average household.
Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis said it didn't have to come to this. She joined us to explain her position.
Lewis said the tax increase is a Band-Aid over a much deeper problem. She said spending cuts to CPS were made without consultation with the people who actually know where the fat in the budget is.
Lewis also said that whether a CPS school works and has resources depends on your zip code.
