Chicago's Most Wanted Alvaro Carrera

Posted:

Alvaro Carrera has been on the run for nearly fifteen years. Cook County prosecutors charged him with attempted murder in October 1996. At that time, Carrera was 19 years old and police say he was working as a bus boy at the Golden Steer restaurant in Forest Park. Investigators say Carrera had only been an employee for about five days when he tried to rob restaurant owner, Peter Vlahos. They believe Carrera stabbed Vlahos multiple times with a knife when Vlahos refused to give him any money. Vlahos had emergency surgery that day and survived his wounds.

Police arrested Carrera shortly after the stabbing and he was released on bond. Agents say Carrera disappeared in March 1997 when he didn't show up for a court appearance. Since then, Carrera has been the target of an international manhunt by the FBI. Until now, their search has focused on Mexico and certain parts of California. Agents say Carrera has family in Modesto, Long Beach, and Bakersfield, California.

They also believe Carrera may have returned to the Chicago area. If you have seen him or have any information on where he is, FBI agents want to know.

Here is a description of what investigators say Carrera looks like. He is described as a Hispanic male, 35 years old, about five feet ten inches tall, weighing around 161 pounds, with black hair and black eyes.

He is considered armed and dangerous.

If you see him, call police.
