Illinois deserves better, from us as well as our politicians.
We need to ask ourselves a hard question.
What were we thinking when we voted to re-elect Rod Blagojevich in 2006?
Many of the most damaging things that prosecutors have alleged at this trial have already been reported by FOX Chicago News, including that the then-state Governor was selling top jobs for $25,000 a pop.
Hindsight being 20/20, we can now see this much: the Illinois General Assembly was right on when it overwhelmingly voted to impeach the then-governor.
You can say what you want about Blaogjevich's challenger, Judy Baar Topinka.
But one thing's for sure: she would have showed up for work every day, instead of the shameful two-to-eight hours a month that Blago put in.
And it's hard to imagine that she would have subjected us to the humiliation and disgrace that Blago has inflicted on all of us.
In my view, we need to think about this long and hard as we make our decisions at the polls this November 2.
At the end of the day, Illinois deserves better.
