Drew Peterson Team Again Asks for Release from Jail

Lawyers for Drew Peterson are asking the Illinois Supreme Court to release the former Bolingbrook police sergeant accused of murder from jail, saying prosecutors' appeal to the court has delayed his trial.

Peterson attorney Joel Brodsky said he sent the appeal by FedEx on Monday, days after Will County prosecutors appealed an appellate court ruling that prevents them from using several hearsay statements Peterson's ex-wife Kathleen Savio allegedly made before her body was found in her bathtub in 2004.

Peterson has been jailed since 2009 and denies any wrongdoing. Authorities also have named him a suspect in the 2007 disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy, but he hasn't been charged.

Brodsky said Peterson should be released because the prosecutors' appeals have denied his right to a speedy trial.
