GPS and Cell Phone Surveillance Technology Tracks Personal Information

Posted:

Who's watching you?

From your computer to your cell phone, a wide range of cookies and other surveillance technology is being used to track all kinds of things about you.

FOX Chicago found out how you can do to protect yourself.

Bad guys are prowling the parking lots looking for Beamers, Benzes and big SUVs equipped with GPS navigators.

“On those devices are your address and just about everything about you,” retired police officer Steven Rogers said. “You're actually setting yourself up to become a target"

What happens next?

When your head towards the stadium to take your seat, the bad guy heads for your car to grab your GPS. He'll find out where you live.

On your GPS, never identify your address as "home." Never leave cell phones or navigators in your car. Finally, please don't post your vacation plans on Facebook.

If you've got a smart phone -- you're on the grid -- and trackable.

Mobile apps like Four Square and Groupon track not just your location, they also note where you shop, the brands you buy and the company you keep.

"We allow these technologies to be woven into the fabric of our lives," social media specialist Shelly Palmer said.

Their objective: to make you buy things you don’t need, with money you don’t have.

The bottom line is, be careful who you let know where you are, and where your going.
