Greater Chicago Food Depository Collects Food at Union Station

Whether it's a can of corn, a box of spaghetti or a bag of rice, a little goes a long way. We're teaming up with the Greater Chicago Food Depository to help beat hunger this holiday season. At Union Station Tuesday they were collecting food from commuters.

The Union Station food drive was a huge success last year, and they're hoping for a repeat. Last year, the campaign netted 6,000 pounds of food in one day, and early Tuesday it seemed this year would be better.

The Greater Chicago Food Depository serves 650 pantries and kitchens across Chicagoland. Since 2008 when the economy turned, the demand for food from depository has increased every year since, and many of those in need are children.

Volunteers at the depository handed out bags to commuters on their way home, and Tuesday those commuters brought them back filled with food.
