CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Following a homicide this winter in the West Side Ogden Police District, police initiated a two-month investigation into illegal drug sales in the area that culminated Thursday with the arrests of nine people and the recovery of an array of drugs.

The investigation was initiated in February by the police Narcotics Division and Ogden District tactical officers following a murder near 1900 S. Troy, a release from police said. Surveillance and intelligence-gathering confirmed that a drug market operated by New Breeds gang members was attracting violence and criminal activity.

Police identified 10 targets involved in narcotics sales and conducted covert buys of heroin and crack cocaine from them. They also executed five search warrants.

On Thursday, the investigation culminated with the arrests of nine offenders and the seizure of heroin, crack cocaine and cannabis, along with a semi-automatic pistol, cash and two vehicles that previously were reported stolen.

Four residences were submitted to the Drug and Gang House Enforcement Section for further investigation and police continue to search for one suspect.

Arrested in connection with this investigation were:

  1. Rodney Feagin, 25, delivery/possession of a controlled substance;
  2. Earl Hopson, 25, delivery of a controlled substance;
  3. Louis Poole, 17, delivery of a controlled substance;
  4. Lionel Caldwell, 54, delivery of a controlled substance;
  5. William Robinson, 50, delivery of a controlled substance;
