Bob Sirott's one more thing about the high cost of concert tickets

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

One more thing about the high cost of going to concerts.

Bruce Springsteen tickets go on sale Saturday for his September 7 Wrigley Field show. Top ticket price is $103. Madonna is coming to the United Center in September. The best seats for that concert have already been selling for $355.

This is the boss when it comes to gross revenue. Madonna's tour is outselling everyone right now. After I posted the question on our Facebook page—"why do her tickets cost three times more than Springsteen's?,", I got some interesting answers, including: "to pay for all the dancers and stage performers to distract from her music," and "she's got three times the biceps."

Bruce's "Wrecking Ball" tour sold the second most tickets in January--behind Van Halen, and the second most in February behind Madonna. So right now he's the "vice boss." Of course if he didn't care about his "working class" image, he'd probably charge as much as Madonna and be number one in ticket sales.

The live music industry has been rebounding lately, and is expecting a record year of revenue. Of course they are. When you're charging $355 for a ticket what do you expect?

Some in the concert industry think if ticket prices keep going up there will eventually be push-back and business could be adversely affected. It may get worse before it gets better. The Rolling Stones will be touring next year to mark their 50th anniversary. They're talking about doing multi-night runs in big arenas. Start saving your money now.
