The trial of William Balfour starts next Monday for the murder of three of Jennifer Hudson's family members. We've learned Balfour has been busy with other court proceedings: His divorce from Hudson's sister Julia.
Julia Hudson sought the divorce, and we now know it was granted by a judge in December. Court filings indicate the divorce went relatively smoothly. There was no mention of the murders, and no fight from Balfour.
Legal analysts say Balfour's attorneys in the criminal case probably advised him on that.
Jennifer Hudson's mother, brother and young nephew were the victims of the murders.
A small number of seats will be open to the public each day of the trial in the Criminal Courts Building.
For a chance to get one of the seats, spectators will have to sign up in-person with the court deputy the day before they want to attend.
