I am having a love affair that just gets better with time. Of course I am in love with Chicago. Exciting and enlightening ... hardly a dull moment in the 25 years I've spent here as an adult. I also spent my first 3 years here, but can't say I remember much of that! I recall with pride being part of the memorable moment in Chicago television history when FOX 32 News launched this local news operation.

Since 1987, we have proven that there can be new approaches to story-telling, new views to consider, new viewers to include in the pulse of events and people that make Chicagoland such a vibrant and exciting place.

As a reporter, I demand that we expose the urgent stories of the day with a thorough and accurate lens. As a Chicagoan, a mother and a neighbor I am always looking for the news that gives you an edge in your everyday life. From raising kids to self-defense to fixing up schools and communities, the power of broadcasting should deliver much more than a litany of what happened today.

When I arrived in Chicago in 1983 to work as a Consumer Reporter for another station, I returned to the city where I was born. My father moved our family from Hyde Park to Southern California when he became the West Coast Editor of Ebony Magazine. I suppose I inherited the writing bug from Louie Robinson. Print journalism is an essential record, but I've always craved the "right now" nature of television. I started my broadcasting career as a secretary in the Public Affairs Department at KGTV in San Diego while attending San Diego State University. I won my first --and most treasured-- Emmy Award for writing a Public Service Announcement while I was a secretary!

30 years later, I see an evolution in broadcast news which invites the viewers into a real conversation ... no more of us doing all the talking while you just listen. So please, talk back! Afterall, it is the passion of the outspoken, informed and interested people here that keeps me swooning over Chicago. That, and the lovely winters.
