The Plainfield Police chief says he now considers this a cold case. Lisa Stebic was remembered Thursday night on an anniversary friends and family hoped they would never have to mark without knowing what happened to her.
“She vanished out of our lives, out of her children’s lives but she did not vanish out of our hearts” says Lisa’s cousin Melanie Greenberg.
It has been two years filled with sadness and questions. But those who knew and loved Lisa Stebic gathered together to light candles in remembrance of the woman who was such a light in their lives.
“Vivacious smile, her infectious laughter, I think every picture i have of her she’s laughing,” says Lisa’s friend Laurrie Bingenheimer.
Police say Craig Stebic remains the only suspect in his wife's disappearance. He's not saying anything, and neither he nor his son or daughter attended the vigil.
“We need to find her, we need to bring her home, and we need that person to be brought to justice and to stand up and be accountable for his cowardly acts and his deeds,” demanded Lisa’s cousin Don Zimmerman.
At the vigil people wrote notes for Lisa’s children, and shared memories. But what they really want to share, they fear they never will.
“Time heals and things get easier but we have no closure, and I don’t feel we ever will,” explained Lisa’s friend Laurrie Bingenheimer.
The grand jury continues to investigate this case, and recent developments gave a few more clues about what happened here two years ago. But Lisa’s supporters want more than answers, they want justice.
