Voight focused on Obama for much of his speech. "Obama as a candidate portrayed himself as a moderate but turned out to be wildly radical," he said. "Everything Obama has recommended has turned out to be disastrous." Voight also said that the U.S. under Obama's leadership is in danger of "becoming a weak nation."

Voight is an outspoken conservative who endorsed John McCain's 2008 presidential bid and criticized then-candidate Barack Obama in a Washington Times opinion piece . Voight also narrated a video biography of McCain's running mate, Sarah Palin, and appeared in the 2008 conservative satire "An American Carol."

Following Voight's speech at the fundraising dinner, the New York Daily News reports that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said, "I'm still just reveling that someone from Hollywood made a speech like that. I hope you’re going to be able to find work after this."
