FOX Chicago News

Chicago - U.S. Senate Candidate Alexi Giannoulias got some help from fellow Democrats on the campaign trail over the weekend.

Giannoulias, Senator Dick Durbin and Representative Danny Davis toured a job re-training facility in Chicago Sunday.

Afterwards, they talked about the recent congressional vote to extend unemployment benefits.
In states where unemployment is high, some workers can now qualify for benefits lasting 99 weeks, or nearly two years.

Giannoulias' opponent, Republican Congressman Mark Kirk, voted against the extension.

Kirk said Congress needs to figure out a way to pay for these things before approving them.

Sunday, Giannoulias also hosted a fundraiser starring White House Senior Advisor David Axelrod.

Giannoulias' campaign has about $900,000 in the bank, while Kirk's campaign has $3.9 miilion.
