Chicago - Prosecutors in the Rod Blagojevich case said Monday they don't want to postpone the June 3 starting date for his trial.
Last week, Blagojevich asked to delay the trial. His attorneys said they just had a pile of new documents dumped on them and there's no way they can be ready by June 3. Blagojevich also said the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on the honest services law could come out in late June, so why start before then?
But in a written response filed Monday, prosecutors said the evidence against Blagojevich is not going to change, no matter what the Supreme Court does.
And they said that since Blagojevich is being so vocal about defending himself, the public has a strong interest in getting the case decided one way or another.
The case is back in court Wednesday. There could be a decision then by Judge James Zagel.
