Palatine, Ill. - The economy has pushed enrollment up sharply at Harper College in Palatine. And there’s quite a demand for a unique new course for women.
It’s “Introduction to Welding for Women,” and it has the sparks flying.
It’s so hot, in fact, that welding instructor Pamela Olin said the class now has six sections.
“We got such an incredible response from people,” Olin said, “that we just kept adding until we ran out of time in the first semester.”
Seventy women are taking the class –- and there are four men taking the class as well.
Not only is it a good potential career path, it’s also a good item to use in bartering, Olin said.
