Woman Dies After Hit By Car

Park Forest, Illinois - A 43-year-old woman died Sunday after she was hit by a car while investigating a minor accident Wednesday at 209th Street and Western Avenue in Chicago Heights.

Ruby Matthews, 128 Ash St., Park Forest, was pronounced dead at 10 p.m. at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to Olympia Fields police, who handled the initial accident. They said Matthews was driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer when she bumped into a Chevrolet Cavalier about 7 p.m. in the southbound lane at the intersection.

Matthews and the teenage driver of the Cavalier were inspecting the damage to their cars in the northbound lane of Western Avenue when they were hit by another car, Chicago Heights police said. The teen suffered a broken leg, police said.

They said the South Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the fatal accident, and no charges had been filed as of Monday night.
