Chicago - A portion of the Stevenson Expressway was temporarily shut down in both directions Thursday afternoon near Pulaski Road as fire crews worked to clear up a spill of 65 gallons of a "flammable" liquid, prompted by a tanker truck collision.
The accident, involving a tanker truck and a car, happened about 1:15 p.m. on the northbound ramp of the Stevenson Expressway (I-55) at Pulaski Road, according to Illinois State Police.
Fire crews shut down the Pulaski Road ramp on the northbound Stevenson about 1:50 p.m. to clean up 65 gallons of the spill, according to Fire Media Affairs Cmdr. Will Knight. State Police called the contents "flammable" liquid although it was not initially clear what type of chemical the tanker was carrying.
Knight said a Level II Hazardous Materials response was called to clear up the spill. No one was injured.
Illinois State Police are investigating.
