High Risk Boys... High Priority?

They are the boys who scare us. Except when they make us mad. Or make us cry. Will they make us act?

Young males, mostly African American or Latino, who seem to be the victim or perpetrator in much of the violence on our streets. The neighborhood trouble-makers who won't stay in school or out of jail.

We keep asking, "What can be done?" ... "How can they be saved?" ... "How can we be saved from them?" ... "What should adults be doing?" ... I sat down with two young men trying to change the probability that they will spend their lives locked up or ... worse.

Seventeen-year-old Colby was mentored by the One Family One Child program for the last six months of his nine-month sentence in a juvenile detention center. It was one of many terms he has served. He said he knows his chances have run out.
