Chicago - The family of Mexican teen Ramiro Guevara filed a wrongful death lawsuit after he was shot to death inside a Logan Square nightclub he had slipped into with a fake ID.

Guevara, 17, was shot in the back in the early morning hours of Oct. 15, 2009, after a fight broke out in V-Live, where Banda El Recodo was playing.

On Tuesday, his family -- including a representative of his young daughter -- filed suit against the club at 2047 N. Milwaukee, alleging poor security led to the fatal shooting.

The suit alleges staff and security were negligent and “failed to provide metal detectors to insure the safety of its guests.”

In addition to the club, Firm Real Estate Group LLC and Valiente Security Consultants LLC were named as defendants.

A bar manager who answered the phone at the club Tuesday afternoon said he had no comment on the pending litigation.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.

Guevara was carrying fake identification showing he was 18, a source said. The club allows patrons as young as 18 to attend concerts but does not allow them to drink alcohol. There were no indications at the time the club did anything wrong by allowing Guevara inside, a police source said.

An update on the criminal investigation was not immediately available on Tuesday.

Guevara had arrived in Chicago from Mexico just four months before his death, to marry a 21-year-old woman he met here, family said at the time.
