Chicago - Chicago police still have no arrests, but are following several leads in the Halloween killing of a DePaul University student.
Reportedly several people saw the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Francisco “Frankie” Valencia on Saturday night.
Valencia was attending a Halloween party in Humboldt Park along the 1700 block of North Rockwell when someone who wasn't invited opened fire around 1 a.m. Sunday.
The gunfire reportedly took place following an argument. Valencia was hit in the chest by a single bullet and was pronounced dead three hours later, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Daisy Camacho, also a senior at DePaul, was also struck in the neck by a bullet. As of Monday morning, she is listed in serious, but stable condition at Illinois Masonic Hospital.
Friends of Valencia said he was kind, nice and extremely goal-oriented.
University officials considered the political science major and resident advisor one of their rising stars.
Valencia would have graduated next June.
Efforts are underway Monday to hold a vigil for Valencia at 5:30 p.m. at the University's Quad area in Lincoln Park, and a card signing will take place at the campus Cultural Center starting around 9 a.m.
