Man Killed In Police-Involved Shooting

Chicago - A man Chicago Police shot in the Lincoln Square neighborhood Tuesday night on the North Side has died.

The man, in his 30s, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at 10:06 p.m. at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

About 9:10 p.m., Lincoln District uniformed officers responded to a call of a person with a knife in a domestic-related incident in the 5100 block of North Leavitt Street, according to a statement from police News Affairs. Responding officers were met by family members in front of the residence, and one of the family members allowed the officers entry to the first floor apartment, the statement said.

Once inside, the officers announced their office and were confronted by the man, who was standing with a large knife in his hand. The officers ordered him to drop the knife, but he failed to comply and allegedly ran at the officers using the knife in a striking motion, according to the statement.

The officers, in fear of their lives and the safety of the family members, discharged their weapons, wounding the man. A knife was recovered on the scene, the statement said.

The officers were not injured, according to the statement.

The man was initially taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis said

The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating, and at 10:20 p.m. were sending a team of two investigators, one supervising investigator and someone in training to the scene, Chief Administrator Ilana Rosenzweig said.
