Two businessmen were attacked and robbed this week in southwest suburban Oak Lawn in apparently related incidents involving them making cash deposits and withdrawals, police said.

On Thursday, a man walking toward his car in the parking lot of a Chase Bank branch, 10440 Cicero Ave., was attacked about 10:50 a.m. by a man who knocked him down and kicked him several times before swiping a bag containing $30,000 that the victim had tucked in his coat, police said.

The victim had made a cash withdrawal for his business, which is in the 9200 block of Cicero Avenue - the same block in which a similar robbery occurred Tuesday, according to police.

In that incident, a manager walking away from the Boston Market, 9267 Cicero Ave., was attacked from behind about 9:20 a.m. by a man who stole his backpack containing a cell phone, wallet, receipts and about $1,000 in cash bound for a deposit at a local bank, police said.

They said the victims in both attacks suffered minor injuries.

Police believe the same robber was involved in both crimes because they were similar and the description of the robber was the same - a black male, 25 to 35 years old, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing about 170 pounds.

However, the robber wore a mask in the Tuesday robbery, and the descriptions differed on the cars in which he fled, police said.
