Chicago - Nearly 57,000 Illinoisans have registered for federal assistance after flooding hit the state earlier this year.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency said Monday that so far it has approved nearly $105 million in aid for Illinois residents. Seven counties qualified for federal disaster help, including Carroll, Cook, DuPage, Jo Daviess, Ogle Stephenson and Winnebago.

Four federal disaster recovery centers are open in Illinois. FEMA says it has completed just more than 44,000 housing inspections in the state.

Federal officials say the deadline to apply for assistance is Oct. 18.
