Chicago - A Chicago couple has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against a suburban hospital, claiming the hospital's negligence led to the death of their six-week-old son.
Attorneys for Fritzie and Cameron Burkett say the couple's son Genesis died after staff at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge administered intravenous medication 60 times the prescribed dose.
Genesis Burkett was born prematurely, but the family said the infant was making progress until he was given the overdose of sodium, which caused his heart to stop.
"After experiencing this you wouldn’t want this on anybody, and you want to make some awareness that these type of things go on. And if there's anything we can do to change that after having gone through the situation, that's what we want to do," Cameron Burkett said.
A Lutheran General spokesman admitted the hospital gave the baby the wrong dosage by mistake.
The Burketts are seeking what they describe as "full and fair" compensation for their son's death.
