Wilmette, IL. - A man is under police guard at an Evanston hospital Wednesday after barricading himself inside his home in north suburban Wilmette.
Police responded about 4:45 a.m. to a residence at 743 Leamington Ave. after a man locked himself inside his home, according to a Wilmette Fire Dept. lieutenant, who said he did not think there were any hostages.
A 37-year-old man wanted for an aggravated battery to a relative barricaded himself in the residence and threatened to take his own life and kill others, according to a release from Wilmette police.
NIPAS, the regional SWAT team, responded to the scene and the man voluntarily surrendered at 7:26 a.m.
A fire department spokesman said Wilmette police are investigating after paramedics took the man to Evanston Hospital.
He is currently under guard at the hospital and police anticipate felony charges will be filed later Wednesday, the release said.
The incident is about a half-mile south of Loyola Academy in Wilmette.
