Chicago - A Chicago man accused of striking a Highland Park police officer during a traffic stop last month pleaded not guilty to battery charges in Lake County court Thursday.

Christopher Mace, 29, faces up to a seven-year prison sentence and a $25,000 fine if convicted on Class 2 felony aggravated battery charges.

Mace was stopped by a Highland Park police officer Oct. 11 at Lake-Cook and Green Bay in Highland Park roads after he was observed driving his vehicle erratically.

During the traffic stop he was alleged to have struck the officer, authorities said.

Mace was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence, illegal lane usage, aggravated battery of a police officer and obstruction of justice.
