United Airlines' computer problems at O'Hare International Airport started just after 5 a.m. this morning. That's according to Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory.
The computer systems were back up and running by about 10 a.m. Isham Cory says at one point, the airline instituted a "ground stop," keeping United flights bound for O'Hare grounded if they hadn't taken off yet.
She says the glitch affected the boarding pass system and the computers that tell pilots the number of passengers on board and weight of the plane, which affect how much fuel an aircraft can carry.
She says pilots need that information to take off. The glitch temporarily disrupted United flights at O'Hare, causing long lines and delays for holiday weekend travelers.
United Airlines flights are leaving O'Hare again, and 85 percent of computers are back online.
