Chicago - An Indiana motorist suffered a head wound when he slammed into a traffic light pole early Tuesday in the Loop.

The crash happened about 11 p.m. Monday, near the intersection of State and Madison streets, News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

The man was driving a Chevrolet Caprice south on State Street when he plowed into a traffic signal pole at 2 S. State St., according to Central District police who said the driver was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with a head injury. There were no passengers.

Alfaro said he did not know the man's condition.

Police declined to identify the driver but said he was written a citation for damage to city property because he damaged the pole, which was on the west side of State Street.
Drugs, speeding or alcohol were not factors in the wreck, police said.
