Chicago - A man who tried to kidnap a little girl by promising her candy in a Northwest Side park was thwarted by the girl’s brother late last week, police said.

Anthony Correa, 44, of the 4800 block of North Kruger Avenue, was charged with attempted kidnapping, according to Albany Park District police.

Correa was held on $175,000 during a Saturday bond hearing, according to Cook County State's Attorney's office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton. He will appear for a preliminary hearing on Nov. 6 in Northwest Felony Court (Br. 50).

The incident happened last Thursday about 6 p.m. at a playlot or park at 4533 W. Carmen Ave., when Correa allegedly approached the 9-year-old girl and said, “Come with me and I will buy you some candy,’’ and then dragged her by the arm and pants, according to a police report.

The girl’s 12-year-old bother came to her aid and helped her get away, according to the report.

The siblings went back home and told their parents, and their father went back to the park, saw the man still there and chased him down. A brief struggle ensued and Correa got away. Correa was arrested Friday morning.

Grand Central Area detectives are investigating.
