Many people are complaining about the sky high property tax bills they've been getting in the mail the past week or so.
If you wonder where all you money goes, the civic federation has broken it down.
If you live in Chicago, 53 percent of the money goes to fund city schools. Twenty percent goes to the city of Chicago for things like police, fire, garbage pick up and other city services. About nine percent goes to Cook County. Seven percent goes to the Chicago park district. The rest goes to fund libraries, the city colleges and the water reclamation district.
One interesting fact we found: Illinois has more taxing districts than any other state in America.
There are nearly 7,000 government units in Illinois that slap taxes on us.
