Chicago - Too many questions remain unanswered for Chicago Police to sign off on the ruling by the Cook County Medical Examiner, that Chicago Board of Education President Michael Scott died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the left temple.
It is simply too early for us to draw any sort of conclusion about the cause of death, said Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis.
Instead, police are calling the case a death investigation.
Their focus is now on figuring out where Scott was between when he was last seen Sunday night around 6:30 P.M. and when his body was found around 3:20 A.M. Monday.

Police found Scott’s body along the bank of the Chicago River near Kinzie Street, half in and half out of the water.
Sources said police used Scott's cell phone to locate him. His late model, blue Cadillac was found at the scene and towed away as evidence.
Scott's family had reported him missing just after midnight Sunday. They do not believe he would take his own life.
Police would not say why they are skeptical about Scott’s death being a suicide, other than it is too early in the investigation.
“We have a lot of work to do, we have to interview a lot of people, we have to check video cameras that might be in the area, we have to look at phone records, we have to do all the logical investigative leads,” Weis said.
Police have not found a suicide note, but they did recover a .38 caliber weapon either under or near Scott's body. They have not determined who the gun belongs to.
“I don’t know if he had any weapons registered to him at this point in time, we are tracking that gun to see where those serial numbers come back to,” Weis said.
At the scene, there are two security cameras on the back of the Apparel Mart, pointing in two different directions, but it's not clear if they captured video that sheds any light on what happened.
