Chicago - The death of a man pinned while attempting to catch a CTA bus Thursday afternoon on the Near West Side has been ruled an accident, a Friday autopsy found.
The man – identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office as 53-year-old James Minter – was pinned under the wheel of a CTA bus at 1:38 p.m. near South Ashland Avenue and West Harrison Street, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.
Minter, of 8054 S. Justine St., was pronounced dead 2:19 p.m. at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, the medical examiner’s office said.
A Friday autopsy revealed Minter died of multiple injuries from a bus striking a pedestrian, the medical examiner’s office said. His death was ruled an accident.
CTA spokeswoman Katelyn Thrall said preliminary reports indicate a No. 9 Ashland bus was proceeding towards a green light when the man fell and was struck by the rear tires.
The bus driver was removed from service following the vehicle, a standard procedure, Thrall said.
Nobody on the bus was hurt, and passengers were placed on another bus after the accident, Thrall said.
The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
