A pilot for United Airlines was arrested at a London airport on allegations he was about to fly a plane to Chicago -- drunk.

The pilot wasn't identified, but United did remove him from service, according to a Chicago Tribune report.

A spokeswoman for the airline said the flight -- carrying 124 passengers and 11 crew members -- was slated to depart London at 12:05 p.m. London time for O'Hare Airport.

"Safety is our highest priority and the pilot has been removed from service while we are cooperating with authorities and conducting a full investigation," the airline said in a statement. "United's alcohol police is among the strictest in the industry and we have no tolerance for violation of this well-established policy."
