Zion, Illinois - Officials are still investigating a structural fire that occurred early Sunday morning. Zion police happened to discover a parked car on fire while on patrol, said Eric Troy, Zion Fire Department battalion chief.
When the fire department arrived on the scene, they found the car fully engulfed. The fire spread to the garage, which housed a second vehicle.
The fire occurred at 1:43 a.m. at 3029 Gilead. Although the residents were evacuated at the time of the fire, the two vehicles and garage sustained all the damage, totaling an estimated $40,000.
Nobody was injured, Troy said.
Beach Park, Winthrop Harbor and Newport Township assisted on scene. The fire was doused in 20 minutes.
