Chicago - Police continue to search for a car that fled the scene after fatally striking a woman as she crossed a street Tuesday night in the South Side Pilsen neighborhood — just before the woman was struck by a CTA bus.

About 5:05 p.m. Tuesday, a northbound car struck the woman, identified as Martha Gonzalez, as she attempted to walk west across South Halsted Street at 1800 South, according to police. Gonzalez was then propelled into the path of a northbound CTA bus behind the car, police said.

CTA spokeswoman Sheila Gregory said an eastbound No. 18/18th - 16th Street bus was behind the car.

Gonzalez, 36, of 2036 W. Cullerton St., was dead on the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

An autopsy Wednesday found that Gonzalez died of multiple injuries from a car and a bus striking her, according to the medical examiner's office. Her death was determined to be an accident, the medical examiner's office said.

Detectives are looking for a blue or purple, four-door sedan with a chrome, centered-trim grill, according to police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer. The car has damage to the hood on the driver’s side near the headlight area. It was last seen going north on Halsted Street from the accident scene.

The police Major Accident Investigation Unit and Harrison Area detectives are investigating.
