Posen, Illinois - The state Department of Children and Family Services is investigating the Oct. 3 death of a Posen girl who was struck by a car in Dixmoor. DCFS spokesman Kendall Marlowe said Nyelah Morton's death was under investigation based on a Sept. 28 report. Morton, who was 22 months old, died at Hope Children's Hospital of brain damage and other injuries, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Her death was ruled an accident.
Dixmoor police have refused to release any details of the incident, including the exact date and address. Authorities said a vehicle backing out of a driveway struck the child who was on foot.
Marlowe said DCFS has had no other contact with Morton's family. Her sibling has since left the family home in the 2300 block of 144th Street and has been put in the care of a relative, he said.
