A sales tax showdown in Cook County as Board President Todd Stroger vetoes a sales tax rollback voted upon last week.

For the fourth time this year, Cook County Commissioners have voted to roll back the county sales tax from 1.75 to 1.25 percent.

This time around, the commissioners may have more power than the president, because of a new state law that went into effect this month.

Now, 11 commissioners instead of 14 are needed to override Stroger's veto.

But, Stroger says that won't stop him from doing what he thinks is best.

Commissioner Deborah Sims, who had supported Stroger's veto on the last vote, today said she would vote to uphold Stroger again.

Sims said her vote is to help keep County Hospital and other county facilities operating.

The next county board meeting is not until next month.
