Police are attempting to determine what sparked a confrontation between two teenagers and three men near a local elementary school last week in north suburban Round Lake Beach. On June 12, police say two teenagers were walking in the 700 block of Central Park Drive when a white car carrying three Hispanic men pulled up. It was then the men got out of the van and confronted the boys, said Round Lake Beach police Officer Paul Grace. A fight ensued that led to one of the teens suffering a wound to the neck.

It is believed the victim might have been cut with a knife, authorities said. The injury did not require immediate medical attention.

The teenagers tried to flee the area, but were chased by the men down a bike path near Raymond Ellis Elementary School.

After being pursed for a short time, the boys eventually were able to contact police and report the incident, Grace said.

During an interview with police, the victims described one of the three men as 6-foot-tall, medium build and having a deformed right ear.

A make and model of the vehicle the men were in was not provided, but the license plate number began with the letter "A," police said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Round Lake Beach Police Department at (847) 546-2127.
