Bad economy? Slumping retail sales? Not at a shop in Lincoln Park.
Business at The Second Child is booming. Owner Amy Helgren says in 23 years. This year is her best yet.

Rebecca Colburn has two kids who are growing fast. "Oscar is twenty months and Ella just turned three." A new season means a brand new wardrobe - almost new. Colburn says, "I really like the idea of recycling clothes."

Amy Helgren turned her bright idea to recycling kid's designer clothing 23 years ago after she had her second child.

"More than ever we have people wanting to consign," Helgren says.  "This particular year I have seen about 40 percent increase on the number of consigners who want to get in."

Consigners like Alex Lipscolmb trade in clothes and more for cash and store credit.

"We brought toys, shoes, lots of clothes, just stuff the kids have grown out of." The Second Child carries infant's through children's size 14 and maternity.

"I have been shopping here since I was wearing maternity."

Rebecca Colburn comes by once a week looking for new deals for Oscar and Ella.

You'll find designer brands like Ralph Lauren, Oilily, and Cole Hahn.

"The quality and the price is unmatchable," Colburn says.  "The clothes are very well cared for and they always last, and I am able to pass them on to other people when i'm done with them."

There are certain requirements for consigners. For instance, you do have to schedule a first time appointment. For more information - visit the store web site.
