One Wounded During Police Involved Shooting

Chicago, Illinois - A suspect who fired shots at police who returned fire is in custody after also allegedly shooting a man in the leg on the West Side early Tuesday police said. Police did not strike anyone with their gunfire and no officers were shot during the exchange, according to police News Affairs. About 12:10 a.m., Harrison District uniformed officers responded to a call of a domestic disturbance in the 2900 block of West Harrison Street and when they got there, officers heard several gunshots and saw a male offender with a handgun, according to a release from police News Affairs. As the officers approached the gunman and announced their office, the gunman fled on foot. During the ensuing foot chase, the suspect fired at the officers several times and the officers returned fire as the suspect continued to flee, according to the release. The suspect was subsequently apprehended without further incident and neither offender nor officers were injured during the exchange of gunfire, according to the release. The arrestee who fired shots at police is also suspected of shooting a man in the leg at the Harrison Street address, according to police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines. He had not been charged with anything as of about 3 a.m. The shooting victim, a 23-year-old man, was taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis who said fire crews responded about 12:30 am. The man shot in the legs was unrelated to the original domestic-related call, according to the release. A weapon was recovered on the scene. Harrison Area detectives are investigating.
