Chicago - Witnesses say 16-year-old Derrion Albert was walking home from school when he got caught in the middle of two gangs fighting. Fox Chicago's Darlene Hill spoke with one of those witnesses in an interview you will only see on Fox.

All day long at Fenger High School, students tell me they heard rival gang members talk about a big fight after school. It was supposed to go down away from the security guards and cameras.

"Once they got there, people just started fighting and going crazy. It was so crowded that people were throwing bottles and throwing bricks and they had big boards from the train tracks hitting them with it."

No knives, no guns. Just fists, feet and boards. One them struck Derrion Albert in the back of the head while he was walking home.

Witnesses say after hitting the pavement, the honor roll student was beaten by more gangbangers.

"After he hit the concrete a gang of them just came over and started stomping him in the head and started beating him....and he just started bleeding. And he was on the ground and he wasn't moving. He couln't move... it was over for him."

Witnesses and other students say the melee lasted less five minutes.

Security cameras on some nearby businesses in Roseland captured the beating on camera. But Chicago Police tell Fox Chicago so far, they haven't been able to identify any of the students on tape.
