David Hernandez, the money man behind Mike North's Chicago Sports Webio accused of running a Ponzi scheme, is missing,

Downers Grove police said Tuesday. Hernandez's wife reported him missing about 7 p.m. Monday when he failed to return home, said Downers Grove Police Sgt. David Bormann.

Hernandez had called his wife Monday afternoon and made statements to her "referencing his well being," said Bormann, who declined to be more specific. "

It was enough to cause alarm with his wife," Bormann said.

The missing person's case is independent of the federal regulators' investigation into Hernandez's allegedly running a Ponzi scheme, Bormann said.

Hernandez, 48, a convicted felon who filed bankruptcy three times, allegedly collected more than $11 million from investors in 12 states in the scheme, according to a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission lawsuit filed Monday.

Hernandez was driving an olive-colored Ford Explorer with license plate 9656625.

He is described as 5-feet 10-inches tall and weighing 205 pounds. He was wearing a burgundy shirt and khaki pants. Anyone with information is asked to call Downers Grove police at (630) 434-5600.
