Police remain on “stand by’’ where a man is reportedly holed up inside a residence on the South Side Tuesday morning.

The incident began about 5 a.m. in the 7800 block of South Kingston Avenue, according to police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines.

The female who reported the offense was transported to South Shore Hospital after she fled the scene and left the man inside, according to Gaines. Her condition was not immediately known.

A law enforcement source indicated the armed man inside the home was 30-years-old and was reportedly on drugs. He had reportedly struck his girlfriend with a weapon before she left.

The Chicago Fire Department responded to the 7800 block of South Kingston Avenue with an ambulance as of 6:25 a.m., according to Fire Media Affairs Chief Joe Roccasalva.

Police units remain on the scene as of 7:30 a.m., standing by, and officers were unsure whether he was still inside, Gaines said.
