Chicago - Chicago Public School officials have unveiled a plan to level the admissions process at the city's top high schools.

An audit found some principals were using discretionary powers to admit students who were not qualified.

Under new rules, principals will have to defend any selections they make before a panel of experts.

They'll use a computer model to match students with the high school best for them.

Also, the number of student transfers is being restricted to make sure troubled students aren't passed from one school to another.

People making recommendations for students will have to have detailed knowledge of the student and not just know their family.
