Woman Charged With DUI in Fatal Crash

A woman has been charged with aggravated DUI and reckless homicide following a fatal February crash in northwest suburban Norridge that killed one person and sent two others to the hospital.

Bria Farrar, 24, of west suburban Elmwood Park, was also charged with disobeying a traffic signal stemming from the crash, Norridge police announced Thursday.

Liam Carolan, 21, of 5358 N. Cumberland Ave., was killed in a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of North Harlem Avenue and West Irving Park Road in Norridge, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Police said Carolan was thrown from the rear seat of his brother's Jeep when it was T-boned by a Hyundai Santa Fe SUV at 4:20 a.m. Feb. 20 in Norridge.

An autopsy revealed Carolan died of multiple injuries because of the accident and ruled his death an accident, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Carolan was transported to Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago. The two other men in the Jeep, thought to be in their 20s, were transported to Gottleib Memorial Hospital in Melrose Park and were treated and released, police said.

A woman from the Hyundai Santa Fe was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, and was treated and released, police said.

Carolan graduated from Taft High School in Chicago in 2007 and joined the U.S. Army in 2008, according to information on his Facebook page.

Carolan's brother, Timothy Carolan, said he had recently joined the Illinois National Guard and hoped to become a Chicago police officer.

The brothers and a friend were driving westbound on Irving Park Road when the SUV sped southbound on Harlem through a red light and hit them, Carolan said.

Accident reconstructionists from the Park Ridge Police Department assisted Norridge Police in the investigation.

Farrar’s case was continued from March 10 to March 30 at the Rolling Meadows Courthouse.
