Chicago - Mayor Daley accused Governor Quinn of going back on a promise by proposing to cut state income taxes earmarked for local government.
“Right before the election, he came to the Metropolitan Mayors' Caucus and what did he say Dave? It will not be cut, told the mayors at this meeting because people asked about the financial condition. Because that agreement was made under Jim Edgar,” Daley said.
Quinn's staff says he will announce a $300 million cut in his budget proposal Wednesday.
The mayor accused the governor of pulling the rug out from under Chicago and other municipalities at the worst possible time. He says the city has been on a diet for a while and it’s time for the state to do the same.
Monday, numbers for many of Quinn’s budget cuts were released. He officially presents his budget proposal on Wednesday.
