McGuire, Former Priest, Gets 25 Years in Prison

McGuire Faces Victims at Sentencing

CHICAGO - Sexual abuse victims spoke out in court Wednesday against the former Jesuit priest convicted of molesting them. As Nancy Pender reports, the judge responded with a sentence that amounts to life in prison.

McGuire, a former Roman Catholic priest convicted of taking a boy on religious retreats to have sex with him has been sentenced to 25 years in prison. Donald McGuire of Oak Lawn displayed no emotion Wednesday as U.S District Judge Rebecca Pallmeyer imposed a sentence that likely means the 78-year-old former priest will die in prison. Earlier Wednesday, McGuire's victims and their families gave often emotional testimony, telling of their own guilt that they didn't come forward sooner.
In October, a federal jury found him guilty of taking a minor across state lines for sex. In 2006, McGuire was convicted in Wisconsin for child molestation and sentenced to seven years in prison. He's also been indicted in Arizona for child molestation and faces lawsuits in new child molestation accusations.
